Oven baked Beef – Maltese Style

Ingredients

  • 2 onions
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 2 x 150g meat of your choice*
  • 4 large potatoes
  • 2 cups water or beef broth
  • salt and pepper
  • fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp . olive oil

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the onions
  2. Peel and slice the potatoes
  3. Peel and roughly chop the garlic
  4. Rub garlic into meat (insert half of the chopped garlic in the meat)
  5. In a deep baking dish place the sliced onions
  6. Half of the sliced potatoes on top of the onions
  7. Meat
  8. Cover meat with the rest of the potatoes
  9. Add 1 to 2 cups water or beef broth
  10. Season with salt and pepper
  11. Drizzle of olive oil
  12. Fennel seeds

Bake in oven for 1 1/2 to two hours at 160ºC, until the meat is cooked and tender.

*          Personally, I prefer to use rib-eye or sirloin steak.
